Doctrinal Statements and

Scripture References

We are members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The LCMS is a mission-oriented and Bible-based denomination that confesses the historic, orthodox Christian faith in the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a faith built on “the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone” (Eph. 2:20).

We believe without reservation that the Scriptures of the Old and the New Testament are the written Word of God and the only rule and norm of faith and of practice.

As Missouri Synod Lutherans

  • We affirm the essence of grace alone, faith alone, and Word alone.
  • We believe in and practice the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
  • We believe that through the waters of Baptism God initiates and welcomes us into a relationship with Himself. Through Baptism God gives the gift of new life. We practice and believe in infant Baptism as it captures the essence of the Gospel – God accepting us before we can accept Him.
  • We believe that in the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion) Jesus gives us His body and blood to eat and to drink together with the bread and the wine. At the same time, along with His love, we receive the forgiveness of sins and all God’s kindness. Communion also encourages us to live out the Christian life each day, while drawing us closer to God Himself and to one another.
  • We believe that human beings have been created in the image of God and therefore have supreme worth and value. Their worth is dependent not on accomplishments, but on God’s love. Because God sees humanity as worth dying for, we uphold the dignity of each individual.
  • We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death.
  • We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Ps. 139).
  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Gen. 1:26-27).
  • We believe that marriage is a sacred union of one man and one woman (Gen. 2:24-25), and that God gave marriage as a picture of the relationship between Christ and His bride the Church (Eph. 5:32)
  • At the same time, we acknowledge that humanity is separated from God because of sin. We joyfully proclaim the Good News that because of Jesus Christ forgiveness is a reality. God sent Jesus not to condemn us, but to save us – to deal with the problem of sin on our behalf. Because of Jesus we can enjoy God’s love and kindness each day.
  • We believe in and anticipate the return of Jesus. Though we don’t know the day or the hour, we joyfully proclaim His soon return. At the last day, Jesus will judge all people who have ever lived. His judgment will show his perfect justice and his amazing grace. Believers in Christ will live with him in heaven in perfect happiness forever.

Our Approach to Faith

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the end of the earth” -Acts 1:8

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”  -Matthew 28:19-20

At Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church we get to apply the teachings of God and Jesus to our Ministries that serve our Church, our Communities and our Nation through the work of of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

You will find us visiting with the elderly in local nursing homes, delivering meals to shut ins and those in need, sewing blankets for premature newborns, providing clothing and food to our local distribution centers, supporting disaster relief efforts, providing gifts at Christmas to less fortunate children and caring for physically and mentally challenged children so their parents can have some time to themselves just to name a few.
