Music

Role of Music

Music plays a critical role in LCMS worship, with a strong tradition of hymn singing and choral music. The Traditional Service uses The Lutheran Service Book as the primary hymnal which contains a diverse collection of hymns that deeply enrich the worship experience. The Blended Service uses a blend of hymns along with contemporary Christian songs.

Our Worship Director (who is also our Music Director) provides the piano and organ accompaniment and also leads various choral groups and instrumental ensembles who participate in both of our services. You will experience and have opportunity to participate in our choir, smaller choral groups, chime group, woodwind ensembles, stringed instrument groups, percussionists and praise bands.

Choir

Our choirs have several opportunities to participate in worship! The chancel choir consists of all voices (SATB) for singing anthems, leading hymns and liturgical music and is offered weekly within the seasons of the church year. We also have a smaller ensemble group. This is an audition-based vocal group due to the complexity of the music chosen and is not offered in a regular weekly schedule, rather at various times within the calendar year.

Chimes

The tone chimes group meets weekly from September to May. Music is chosen for two to five octaves, depending on the number of hands needed! We also have music for solo and duet players. We enjoy playing anthems, hymns and classical pieces, sometimes accompanied by piano or flute and piano.

Orchestra

We have a small orchestra that meets on a regular basis when preparing for services or

concerts. Additional instruments are needed to increase complexity, and sometimes we seek

others within the community! If you are someone who enjoys playing an instrument, or has one that is sitting in the closet, please join us! We are growing!

Guitar Ensemble

The guitar ensemble is a group that meets primarily in the summer. Players bring songs they like to sing and share with the group for all to learn. We have a great time!

Worship Team

A rotating schedule is offered to those who like to play and/or sing during our second church

service. Worship is more modern by nature, but blended to include traditional hymns and

theologically strong modern songs. Practice is weekly in preparation for the following Sunday.

We use keyboard, guitars and drums along with other instruments as needed, and we often have two to four vocalists each Sunday to lead worship.

Dulcimer Group

We have various members of our church who play dulcimer. They play two to three times each year. Practiced is determined accordingly.

Soloists/Duets/Trios

We offer opportunity for members to sing or play solos or duets for church. They work with the director in preparing such offerings for the services.

Concerts/Recitals

Throughout the year, our music community is vibrant with concerts and recitals. The events calendar will reflect these events!
